Turkey Trots and Turkey Feasts

Thanksgiving is a time of family, fun, friends, parades, football, and most importantly, thankfulness. But it also conjures up visions of food; feasting on turkey, ham, sweet potato pie, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Yum! Love, thanks, and food is what many of us think about when Thanksgiving comes to mind.

But for racers, from the light walker and jogger (that's me) to endurance runners, bikers, swimmers & triathletes, Thanksgiving is also time for the tradition of the infamous Turkey Trot.

Turkey Trots are becoming one of the biggest race days to scatter the nation. And there are so many differ
ent styles to choose from--beach races, trail races, races with parades, pie races, turkey giveaways--you have your pick from the litter. And most of these races are relatively short in distance, allowing us plenty of time to get back to mom's house for her special gravy and garlic mashed potato dish. Many of these events also offer kid races and walks so the entire family can be involved!

So when asking this year shall I have a feast or shall I be fit this Thanskgiving day, the answer is BOTH! Before you pack on the calories, pack on the miles--Look up a local Turkey Race, and trot your way to a guilt-free post race blowout. Enjoy the gluttony!
